How does a stoma bag work?

The part of the stoma bag that attaches to the abdomen is called the flange. It is covered with adhesive on one side and sticks to the skin around the stoma. The flange also has a hole in it that allows the stoma to hang into the bag. Once the bag is attached the output from the stoma will be collected in it. Once the bag is full it can either be emptied or replaced with a fresh bag.

Types of stoma bags

We offer a wide range of stoma bags to suit different needs and lifestyles. Closed bags are ideal for colostomies with more solid output. Drainable bags have an opening at the bottom, making them perfect for ileostomies with liquid output, as they can be easily emptied and reused, they’re also suitable for people with a colostomy where the output might be more liquid. Urostomy bags feature a tap or valve for continuous urine drainage.

CliniMed stoma bags come in one-piece systems, where the adhesive baseplate and bag are combined for simplicity, and two-piece systems, which have a separate baseplate and detachable bag for greater flexibility. The CliniMed Aura range features soft, skin-friendly manuka honey hydrocolloid adhesives for comfort. We also offer a range of stoma bag accessories, including flange extenders, adhesive removers, and skin protectors, to enhance comfort and security.

Urostomy bags

Urostomy bags are used by people who have a urostomy and have a tap at the end of the bag to allow urine to be emptied. Urostomy bags can be connected to a drainage bag so that they don’t have to be emptied as often such as at night when they are sleeping.
